Installing Old Driver of Old devices on recent Windows Version
December 31, 2016This post was inspired by my problem when installing Ati Radeon Xpress 200 Series on Toshiba M115-s1061 with Windows 7.
As we knew, This model come to market when Windows Vista was the latest windows version.
Thats's why some specific devices that didn't supported anymore, must used compatibility version with Vista, like this Ati Radeon Xpress 200M.
And, what I have done to resolve the problem is:
Go to http://support.amd.com/en-us/download, and make manual selection as this picture:
then click displaya result. Here is what we got. Click to download the first driver and aplication result.
After download finish, just run the program, but it is not installing the driver we need becouse ati software told on log that it is not compatible.
It's ok.
We only need to continue installing the driver manually.
This is the steps:
1. Push Windows + R, type devmgmt.msc
2. Go to Display Adapter, rigth click Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, choose Update Driver Software.
3. Choose Browse my computer.
4. Choose Let me pick from a list....
5. Click Have Disk, and Click Browse.
6. Find the Folder on C:\ATI\Support\10-02_legacy_vista32...\Packages\Drivers\Display\LH_INF (for 32bit) or LH6A_INF (for 64bit)..\CL_95951.inf Then click OK.
7. There, you will have much choices, scroll down to get ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 Series. And click Next.
System will install the driver, if any pop comes up, just clik OK.
On finished, restart windows.
There you get your Ati Radeon Xpress 200 series Display Driver.
On the same way, we can do to install another driver that unsupported by microsoft anymore.
If there is some mistake, just enter Safe Mode and uninstall the wrong driver within devmgmt.msc. ---
